LSU Fightn' Tigers

LSU (Louisiana State University) is a member of the NCAA  and the Southeastern Conference. It fields teams in 14 varsity sports. Its official team nickname is the Fightin' Tigers and the school mascot is Mike the Tiger. The school colors are purple and gold. Based on winning percentage, the University's athletics program is consistently one of the best in the nation. Important rivals in football include one of the longest running college football rivals with the Ole Miss Rebels, and others include the Alabama Crimson Tide, Arkansas Razorbacks and the Auburn Tigers.

LSU Fighting Tigers football team has consistently been one of the most successful programs in the nation since it began playing football in 1893. LSU entered the 2006 season with 669 victories, the 12th most in NCAA history, and the 4th most of any SEC team, behind only Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia. LSU also entered the 2006 season with a 0.635 all-time winning percentage, the 16th best in the NCAA, and the 4th best in the SEC. LSU won the BCS National Championship in 2003 with a victory in the Nokia Sugar Bowl. 

The LSU baseball team has won five national championships at the College World Series. 

The LSU Tigers basketball team has enjoyed recent success, including a Final Four run in the 2005-2006 season.
